KITTANNING - The Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Notice of Violation to Kittanning Borough following an inspection of its Waste Compost Facility at Community Park.
The inspection was conducted on June 12, 2017 by DEP Inspector William Jester. His report stated there was burning at the area, unprocessed brush, grass clippings in the distribution area, as well as ponding water by the finished compost.
Recent grants received for a dump truck and front end loader stipulated that “waste collected with the equipment will be composted at a facility operating according to Department regulations and guidelines.” Failure to comply would result in Kittanning paying back the grant.
Public Works Superintendent Jim Mechling told Council that the violations are being corrected.
A follow up inspection is scheduled on or before September 12, 2017.
Mechling had his guys do it, but I bet Shuster directed him to do so. Why didn’t they save all that brush, and put it Jerry’s new garbage truck that he just had to have?
