Three teens are in serious condition following an early morning Independence Day accident on the Tarrtown Road.
An early Independence Day accident on the Tarrtown Road just above Kittanning in East Franklin Township sent three teenagers to the hospital.
The accident happened shortly after 1AM Tuesday, July 4. According to reports, the driver, 17-year-old James Salerno from Kittanning, crossed the yellow line at a high rate of speed and struck a ditch, rolling the vehicle several times. Then the 2003 Buick Century struck a utility pole.
State Police are suspecting alcohol was involved and listed the violation as driving under the influence of alcohol/controlled substance.
According to an observer, two passengers were thrown out the back window and were on the road when emergency crews arrived, while the driver was trapped in the vehicle. The passengers were identified by State Police as 18-year-old William Salerno and 17-year-old Jeffrey Buck.
The teens were flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. There is no word at this time on their condition, but was listed as serious by police reports.
East Franklin, Applewold, and Kittanning Hose Company #1 responded to the accident.
