SOUPer Bowl Luncheon to Benefit Beth’s Birthdays

While sports fans are gearing up for Super Bowl 51 in February, football fans and community members alike can warm up with a bowl of soup cooked by Armstrong High School students in a few weeks.

From 11AM-1PM Sunday, January 29, Armstrong High School STUCO and LEO Club are joining forces to host a SOUPer Bowl in the Armstrong High School cafeteria.

The event will benefit Beth’s Birthdays, a nonprofit organization dedicated to granting birthday parties to boys and girls turning ages six to 12 whose lives have been recently interrupted by a life circumstance.

The founders believe that a birthday party can help a child gain more self-confidence, feel more social and be more thankful. It can also mark a time of joy – and sometimes even healing – for families who have experienced bumps along the road. Parties are awarded based on an application process but are not based on income.

Beth’s Birthdays Co-Founder and Ambassador Emily Fritz was appreciative of local students and advisor, Erin Burkett.

“We’re really honored that high school students are willing to donate to and host the SOUPer Bowl luncheon and also volunteer during a Sunday to make a difference for us and our future parties,” Fritz said. “It’s really inspiring – and we certainly appreciate them.”

Co-Founder Kelly Stover said, even though the organization is a registered non-profit already, the SOUPer Bowl fundraiser will get the organization closer to affording the application for a 501c3 tax-exempt status

Fritz said two party themes are currently available – rainbow delight and robot revolution – and that 2017 applications are being accepted. She has enjoyed working with all groups.

“It’s been amazing to meet the families,” said Fritz. “The children have all been genuinely excited – and appreciative – to receive a party. If Beth’s Birthdays can give two hours of joy to someone, then we’ve achieved our goal.”
Tickets are $6 at the door, and kids 10 and under eat free. No reservations are required.

In addition to a variety of soups being donated by students and their families, such as chili, vegetable, broccoli cheddar and potato, guests will enjoy cookies and be entered to win a door prize.

Armstrong School District board directors approved the request from the Armstrong High School LEO Club and Senior High Student Council (STUCO) for Sunday usage of the AHS cafeteria.
