Armstrong Loses 7th Straight Against Erie Cathedral Prep at the Belmont
The Armstrong River Hawks hung in the game thanks to a 41 save performance by goaltender Jake Lorigan, but Armstrong was unable to repay their goalie with a win - losing to the Erie Cathedral Prep Ramblers 2-1.

The Armstrong River Hawks (4-9-0) varsity hockey team has been on the wrong side of the scoreboard for seven straight games now, an unfamiliar feeling to the players, fans, and coaches.
“I don’t know what it is. I’ve never lost seven games in a row in anything I have ever done before and neither has Coach (Doug) Anthony, which is really frustrating right now,” River Hawks Coach Glen Kilgore said.
Thursday evening Armstrong hosted Erie Cathedral Prep (6-5-3) at the Belmont complex in what was almost the bounce-back win the team needed.
The River Hawks played a competitive game of hockey Thursday night, allowing the fewest goals (2) in their past seven games.
It looked like the River Hawks were going to take a 0-0 tie into the second period until the Ramblers scored with just 1:30 remaining in the opening period.
In the second period Armstrong was out-shot 17-3, but River Hawks goalie Jake Lorigan allowed just one of those shots to get by with 3:45 to go in the period to give the Ramblers a 2-0 lead.
The River Hawks would find a spark in the third period when Easton Hooks scored on a goal thanks to a beautiful spin-o-rama pass from Nick Benvenutti to make it a one score game, down 2-1.
Unfortunately for Armstrong they were unable to get the third period comeback they were looking for, dropping them to 4-9-0 on the season.
The one shining bright spot for Armstrong in their game against the Ramblers was goaltender Jake Lorigan, who stopped 41 out of the 43 shots he faced. After the game Coach Kilgore was impressed by his goalie’s performance.
“(Lorigan) stopped 41 shots on net. It’s not 2-1 if Jake isn’t in net tonight, he played a heck of a game and stopped a couple breakaways late in the game. It very easily could have been another 7-1 game if he wasn’t in net,” Kilgore said.
The River Hawks will have until Tuesday to prepare for the same Ramblers team, this time the game will be played in Erie at Mercyhurst Ice starting at 8:30 PM.
