On Tuesday night the West Shamokin girls varsity and JV basketball teams took on Redbank Valley in their final scrimmage before the Tip-Off Tournament on Friday and even though a cumulative score was not kept both teams impressed.
Unlike their last scrimmage (a tri-scrimmage) the Wolves varsity coaching staff got a better look at the team as varsity played two 10 minute periods before the JV had one 10 minute quarter - the teams did this four times for the scrimmage.
Though a cumulative score wasn’t recorded both the JV and varsity teams shined. West Shamokin’s varsity team at one point during the third quarter the Wolves went on a 17-0 run against Redbank.
Overall West Shamokin Head Coach Frank Nagy was pleased with how his team played these past two scrimmages.
“I thought our zone defense did a really nice job. Man-to-man wise I think we still need work keeping the (opposing) players using their weak hand. Some better help defense and there are definitely some areas where we need to improve for Friday (Tip-Off Tournament), but overall we played with a lot of energy and we hit the boards and that’s what we have been harping on,” Nagy said.
The Wolves will look to sure some things up these next two days before they travel to Armstrong for their Tip-Off tournament with action starting at 3:00 PM.
