North Apollo Hosts ‘Breakfast with Santa’ December 11

Even before Thanksgiving, Christmas decorations were already hung at the North Apollo Borough Fire Department in anticipation of Santa Claus’ arrival at their December all-you-can-eat breakfast buffet.

Before visiting houses across Armstrong County late Christmas Eve, Santa Claus will make his annual stop in North Apollo Borough next weekend to double-check his gift list.

For nearly a dozen years, Santa Claus has welcomed children to sit on his lap at the North Apollo Borough fire station – at the corner of North 16th Street and Acheson Avenue – during the community’s monthly All-You-Can-Eat Breakfast Buffet.

Following his appearance in Manor Township at Armstrong Junior/Senior High School today – Saturday, Dec. 3 - Santa will be at the North Apollo fire hall from 10AM-12:30PM Sunday, Dec. 11, and will pass out treat bags to children in attendance.

Santa has received help for the treat bags from Fire Chief Jason Burns’ mother, Barb the past six years, Deputy Fire Chief Chris Kerr said.

“Our hall is already decorated – she decorated it before Thanksgiving,” Deputy Chief Kerr laughed. “Every holiday she decorates for us – even the summer holidays, there’s red-white-and-blue stuff everywhere.”

Deputy Chief Kerr will be cooking sausage during the event, but said his sons - nine-year-old Alex and six-year-old Jordan – will attend in hopes of seeing Santa himself.

“My one’s got a list a mile long,” Deputy Chief Kerr said. “They’re always both happy to see Santa.”

Families are encouraged to bring cameras to take photos.

Santa’s appearance makes the monthly fundraising effort – which is usually held the last Sunday of the month – the community’s holiday tradition.

“We actually have a big drawing from all over (the area),” Deputy Chief Kerr said. “We’ve gotten people from Lower Burrell to New Kensington, Kittanning. We’ve had people come from out-of-state to our monthly breakfast – it varies.”

For the price of $9 for adults and $5 for children, the breakfast buffet begins at 8:30AM and will include scrambled eggs, sausage, pancakes, French toast, bacon, home fries, biscuits, mushrooms, sausage gravy, fruit cocktail, bread for toast and refreshments.

Santa’s pre-Christmas Eve tour continues at the Kiski Township Fire Hall December 17.
