After a 1-2-0 start, the Armstrong River Hawks (4-2-0) varsity hockey team have gotten on a bit of a roll winning three straight games including their latest 4-2 victory over Pine-Richland.

It didn’t take long for Armstrong to get on the scoreboard. The River Hawks were able to find the back of the twine at 6:07 in the first when Jacob Gross assisted Zachary Kutch for the 1-0 lead.

In the River Hawks last game against Upper St. Clair they finished with 15 penalties and on Thursday they cut that number nearly in half finishing with 8 penalties, but it didn’t seem to hamper Armstrong’s offense.

Just a few minutes after Kutch’s goal he was able to find Giovanni Romeo for a short handed goal giving Armstrong a 2-0 lead to end the first period.

After the game River Hawks Head Coach Doug Anthony knew his team has to cut down on penalties in the future, but was still impressed with his penalty killing units.

” They work hard, they listen well in practice, we have always been a good penalty killing team. We’ll take some of those physical penalties those are going to get called. It’s the dumb penalties that we got to clean up,” Anthony said.

Nicholas Benvenuti added a goal in the second period and Giovanni Romeo scored his second goal in the third period and that proved to be enough for Armstrong to get out of the Belmont with a 4-2 victory.

The River Hawks will head to Bethel Park next Thursday with the puck drop scheduled for 9:00.
