The 100 block of North and South Jefferson Street in downtown Kittanning continues to be one-way streets (north).

According to Kittanning Borough Street Supervisor Jim Mechling, new traffic lights have not been installed at the intersection of Jefferson and Market streets that would enable the traffic pattern to change to two-way traffic.

Armstrong County Planning Coordinator Sally Conklin alluded to the fact it could be delayed during her report to Kittanning Borough Council last week, but gave no explanation.

Senate Engineer Partner Bill Braun said his firm has not been advised when the new traffic lights will be delivered or a new date when the lights will be operative.

The traffic pattern change is part of the Market Street Revitalization Project that enables two-way traffic on both McKean and Jefferson streets. McKean Street was changed last year under the first phase of the project.

A stop sign has been added to the corner of Jacob and South Jefferson that makes the intersection a four-way stop. Motorists are urged to use caution since many drivers are failing to notice the new sign that has a red flashing light on top of it.

Only took how many years to get this fueland time-wasting one way eliminated? A little while longer wait will be fine.
