The Armstrong River Hawks girls golf team has improved every week throughout the season and now that the season is winding down to an end they find themselves with a 4-6 overall record and 2-6 section record.
This year the girls missed out of the team playoffs, as only the top two teams in the section get to move on. On Thursday the girls had a chance to compete individually at the individuals sectional qualifier at Rittswood golf course, but unfortunately a few River Hawks just missed the cutoff of 90.
Just missing the cut was Alyssa Lobb who had a 93, two other players close to making it were Sydney Schaffer who shot a 99 and Lydia Watt who shot a 106.
Even though the girls missed playoffs this year there are still some positives to take away according to Head Coach Brad Hobaugh.
“Alyssa Lobb is averaging I think a 47 and she has been real strong recently so she’s doing well. Sydney Schaffer is averaging a 51 and Lydia Watt is averaging a 54 this season.”
During their latest match the girls were able to come away with a victory against section opponent Seneca Valley with a final score of 192-193 which was ahead of their season average team score of 206.
Next years team will look a bit different as two of the River Hawks top five are graduating along with another three making the total loss of players five, but Hobaugh is still hopeful for next season.
“I have five graduating girls. Three of my top five will be back though, I have been trying to recruit some girls because we will need more for next season.”
The River Hawks will have a chance to finish their team play with a chance to add a couple wins next week against Butler and Indiana.
