The Armstrong River Hawks Boys Varsity golf team has enjoyed both individual and team success this year as they have posted (as of Wednesday Sept, 21st) a 7-5 overall record and 5-5 in section play.

The River Hawks will still have a chance to make the playoffs as they finished section play on Thursday against Hampton, but they will have to wait and see how the rest of their section does.

As for the WPIAL individual tournament, the boys participated in the sectional qualifier on Monday, September 19th where they had great success.

Three Armstrong golfers moved on to the semi-final round with Jace Cippel shooting a 75 in the qualifier which was good for 2nd overall in the River Hawks section. Along with Cippel, Jace Rearic who shot a 78 at the qualifier and Nick Benvenuti who squeezed in with a score of 80 will represent Armstrong with a chance to win it all.

Even if the boys don’t qualify for team playoffs they will be relatively the same next year as the team will only be losing one senior. River Hawks Coach Brendon Ignatz explained his teams season.

“The season flew by, we have two more matches next week and then we’re done for the regular season. We have had a good season overall. Sometimes we ran into some tough teams and we faced Hampton, Mars, and Shady Side was our biggest competition, they have each given us some losses so our goal from here on out is to win out the rest of the season.”

The River Hawks will have two more non-section matches coming up this week - on September 26th at Butler and one more home match against Indiana on September 28th.
