Street Reconstruction Projects Proposed for Kittanning

Neither public residents nor Kittanning Borough Council members voiced opposition to current plans on how to use the Borough’s 2016 Community Development Block Grant funds.

At the municipality’s second public hearing last night, County Planning and Development Project Manager Sally Conklin explained Kittanning Borough currently plans to spend more than $68,000 in 2016 funds, along with portions of 2015 and 2014 funds, on multi-year street improvements to Campbell Street, Sampson Street and Fair Street.

2014 funds were originally designated toward housing rehabilitation, but elected officials identified the Sampson Street project and requested a modification.

The remainder of the nearly-$15,000 in 2016 grant funding will go to the Planning and Development staff to cover administration costs.

Conklin estimated Campbell Street and Sampson Street projects would begin next year.

While no public residents attended last night’s meeting, they can make comments to Conklin at the Planning and Development office along Market Street in Kittanning by Wednesday, Sept. 28.

Borough Council members will vote on a resolution of the CDBG use at their October 3 public meeting. The application deadline is before Thanksgiving.
