Root Beer Flowing Saturday to Benefit Relay
by Olivia Wasilko
The season for ice cream may be slowing down with fall approaching, but Kristin’s Ice Cream Korner in West Kittanning is far from done for the year.
The small ice cream parlor is teaming up with the Relay for Life team Art & Sole this weekend for their fourth annual Root Beer Float Event. The purpose is to raise money on behalf of Relay for Life and the American Cancer Society.
Starting this Friday and lasting through Sunday, customers can buy a medium-sized root beer float with two and a half scoops of vanilla ice cream for $3.50, and all of the proceeds will go to the cause.
Owner Kristin Hagofsky, 28, says the idea was inspired by a former employee of hers.
“One of the girls who worked here around four years ago, who now works for Relay for Life in Pittsburgh and all around here, she started a group [Art & Sole] and then she kind of gifted the idea to me,” she said. “That way we can continue the tradition.”
Hagofsky’s own team, KICKing Cancer, is also active in Relay for Life, a charity that raises funds and awareness for cancer.
Besides buying root beer floats, you can contribute by donating to the American Cancer Society.
