A local transit agency’s participation in a national marketing campaign at the end of June proved successful.
General Manager Patti Lynn Baker said fixed-route buses made nearly 200 trips that Wednesday three weeks ago.
“We had a 40 percent increase over our average Wednesday end-of month ridership – about 197 trips,” Baker said. “I think that was a good marketing tool. A lot of people were riding different routes than usual so, even though we had some people that were typical riders, they actually rode different routes – which I think was good exposure for people.”
Baker and Operations Manager Gerry Miller experienced ‘Dump the Pump’ Day first-hand with WTYM Radio AM 1380 morning show host David Croyle during his daily airtime, which she said they enjoyed.
“We actually did have a few people that had never ridden before. We had some good conversations with people that actually use the service – a lot of people getting to work said they wouldn’t have any other way to get to work if they didn’t have Town and Country Transit so that was actually a pretty cool thing,” Baker said.
During the show, Croyle interviewed Baker and Miller about Town and Country routes as well as new and frequent riders along the way.
Officials also offered blue T-shirts to riders throughout the day, while supplied last.
Final fiscal year ridership figures are to be released at the August board meeting.
In other business, West Kittanning Borough representative Henry Mores will continue to serve as board of directors president. The nomination by Applewold Borough representative Chuck Nicely was approved unanimously.
Nicely was appointed vice-president by unanimous vote after being consequently nominated by Mores.
