The Little League All-Star double elimination tournament is underway and after suffering a loss to Indiana in their first game, Kittanning bounced back in a big way.

The all-star tournament consists of the best players from the multiple area teams; for example, Kittanning has five little league teams, so the best players from each of those teams represent the Kittanning all-stars. The same rings true for Clymer, Indiana, West Shamokin, etc.

Kittanning all-star manager, Tom Scheeren went on to explain how they select players to the team.

“We go through the season and then all the coaches get together to select the players. We had two 10 year olds playing up in the 11/12 league, so they get in because they’re playing at a higher level. We (the coaches) go through and look at their batting averages, their on base percentage and their other stats, and then we select the ones who will serve best for all-stars,” Scheeren said.

Kittanning needed a win against West Shamokin on Thursday, because they had already lost to Indiana in their first game by a score of 7-3.

Luckily for Kittanning they had five days in between games to get ready, and did that work ever pay off.

Kittanning was able to jump out to an early lead in the top of the first, earning seven runs on nine hits.

West Shamokin was able to answer in the bottom of the first with four runs of their own, and for a while it looked like anyone’s game. However that didn’t last long.

Over the next two innings Kittanning was able to put up 20 runs, six in the second inning and a whopping fourteen runs in the third. These two dynamic innings included two home runs and a couple of ground rule doubles. Kyan Kline was able to start the rally for Kittanning with his inside the park home run, which scored three baserunners including himself. It didn’t take long before Anthony Stuble got himself a two RBI homer out to right field.

At the end of the game the score wound up being 34-7 in favor of the Kittanning all-stars, and with that win they improve to 1-1 in the double elimination tournament.

Manager Tom Scheeren had no complaints with his teams performance.

“You dream of games like this when everyone is hitting the ball, playing really good defense, and we had good pitching to back it up,” Tom Scheeren said.

The most impressive takeaway from Thursdays game is hidden within the quote above, everyone on Kittanning got a hit, which is a “what you dream of” according to Scheeren.

The Kittanning all-star team looks to carry their momentum forward for their next game on Saturday against KESS at a field yet to be determined.
