Armstrong County to Participate in Farmers Market Nutrition Program

The Armstrong County Board of Commissioners and Area Agency on Aging along with the United States Department of Agriculture has announced that Armstrong County will again be participating in the Farmers Market Nutrition Program.

“We are pleased to continue to be a part of this program that benefits not only Armstrong County seniors but Pennsylvania farmers as well,” AAA Executive Director Janet Talerico said.

Eligible Armstrong County Seniors can qualify for vouchers that can be used to purchase state-grown produce from local participating farmers markets.

To be eligible, a senior must be at least 60 years of age, be an Armstrong County resident (excluding personal care home residents), and have a gross annual income of less than $21,978 if singe or a combined gross annual income of less than $29,637 if married. Income sources include social security, pension, interest, and annuities.

Applicants will be required to provide a signed USDA statement verifying the eligibility income is accurate. Applicants must also provide proof of age and residency. Acceptable statements include driver’s licenses (current or expired), birth certificates, and social security cards.

Homebound individuals may have a representative complete an application and provide necessary information to receive the vouchers.

Applications can be filled out on Wednesday, June 29th or Thursday June 30th, both from 9 to 11:30 a.m.

Those applying on Wednesday can do so at any of the following locations: Bradys Bend Senior Center, Dayton Senior Center, Elderton Senior Center, Freeport Senior Center, Parker Senior Center, or Rural Valley Senior Center.

Application sites for Thursday include Apollo Senior Center, Distant Senior Center, Ford City Senior Center, Kittanning Senior Center, Leechburg Senior Center, and Worthington Senior Center.

After July 6th, the Armstrong County Area Agency on Aging will serve as an application site until the voucher supply runs out. The Agency office is located at 326 S. Water Street in Kittanning and will accept applications Mondays through Fridays.

Vouchers are available on a first come, first serve basis.
