Bike Rodeo Gave Helmets, Life Lessons

The 2016 Elks bicycle rodeo winners are pictured here on their bicycles.

Nearly 70 children participated in the Elks’ annual Bike Rodeo and the Richard G. Snyder YMCA “Splash, Safety and Healthy Kids Day” June 5.

Community leaders gave 25 bicycles and Kittanning Borough Police Chief Bruce Mathews received a grant to purchase bicycle helmets for every child participant.

According to Elks Secretary Laurie Julius, Chief Mathews and his daughter personally fitted the helmets to make sure they were snug that Sunday afternoon.

Along with the Elks’ drug awareness trailer, other activities provided that day included free face painting, temporary tattoos, sand art and a balloon artist.
