River Sweep Scheduled for Saturday

The Cowanshannock Creek Watershed Association and Roaring Run Watershed Association will participate in River Sweep from 8AM to noon Saturday, June 18.

River Sweep is an event organized by the Ohio River Valley Water Sanitation Commission (ORSANCO), an interstate water pollution agency for the Ohio River Valley, along with environmental protection and natural resource agencies from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, West Virginia, and Pennsylvania.

The key to making the River Sweep a success is groups and concerned individuals who volunteer their time to come out and join in the fight against pollution along the rivers and streams.

Volunteers should meet at the Cowanshannock Creek Boat Launch or at the Rivers Edge in Leechburg. Trash bags, gloves, and water will be provided and volunteers will receive a souvenir T-shirt for participating. Please dress accordingly (long pants and closed toed shoes or boots) and bring sunscreen and insect repellant.

Those wanting more information or who wish to volunteer can find more information on the website, www.ohioriversweep.org or by calling 1-800-359-3977.

It is not necessary to preregister, but it would help to make sure there are enough T-shirts on hand for participants.
