Manor Township Police officers will be able to apply for a new rank through June 15.
Police Sgt. Terry Bish made the recommendation – and supervisors approved – to interview officers for the rank of corporal through the middle of the month.
Sgt. Bish said that a corporal would assume his duties during his absence.
“The department’s growing. We’re adding more hours, we want to put more (officers on the street), and we need to have somebody that could make the administrative decisions while he is out,” Sgt. Bish said. “I’m not available all the time, Chief (Mike Karabin) is not available all the time, so this adds an individual that can make decisions and move the department forward.”
Sgt. Bish said as many as 10 internal officers can apply for the position.
“I hope all of them apply – that way, the supervisors can make the best choice,” Sgt. Bish said. “They’re all very good officers.”
Only internal candidates are able to apply for the part-time, daylight position.
A pay rate will be established at a later time.
The internal candidate will possibly be publicly selected at the July 6 public meeting.
The new corporal would be Manor Township’s first. Sgt. Bish was promoted to sergeant in 1998.
