Despite the all-day rain around 70 trail enthusiasts enjoyed the fifth annual Eat, Play, Ride Armstrong Trail event on Saturday, May 21.
The event was sponsored by the Armstrong Rails to Trails Association (ARTA), an all-volunteer group that works to maintain and promote the Armstrong Trail, which is owned by The Allegheny Valley Land Trust (AVLT).
All proceeds from the event are targeted for trail improvements.
Along with general mowing and maintenance, projects being considered this year include work on two historic sites, building and installing additional memorial benches and resurfacing a section of trail in East Brady.
All ride routes started and ended at the Nautical Mile Campground in Templeton. Riders could choose to ride or walk on the trail as much or as little as they wanted.
Though getting wet was a given, many participants took to the trail then enjoyed a warm fire upon return to the campground. Those less brave gathered under the pavilion to enjoy the music and the camaraderie of the other participants.
Sheetz donated fresh fruit. A picnic lunch catered by Garda’s was a big hit with BBQ ribs, pasta primavera and side dishes. Cake, door prizes, paper products, beverages and centerpieces were donated by members of the trail association. Live entertainment was provided by Madison Kunst and Rachel Ebig. The campground, fire wood, ice and S’mores were provided by Chuck Rupp of the Nautical Mile Campground.
Platinum sponsors of this year’s event included M & M Lime Company, NexTier Bank and Snyder Charitable Foundation.
Gold level sponsors included, NexTier Insurance Group, CWM Environmental Inc., and Shellhammer Atwood Associates.
Silver level sponsors were Bradigan’s Inc., Rosebud Mining Company, Farmer’s National Bank, W.D. Mohney & Associates, Kay & Steve Owen and Dr. Jim Nemec.
The Bronze sponsor was the Allegheny Valley Trails Association.
