Over 48 non-profit organizations were on the list vying for matching funds that were being provided through charitable partners of Nextier Bank during yesterday’s “Day of Giving” in Armstrong County.
Local Nextier Bank Representative Natalie Cotherman said the response was astounding!
“This was Nextier Bank’s first time partnering with the Richard G. Snyder YMCA campus, and it was a really great day… a great experience. It was extremely busy. We had a lot of customers and community members and organizations come in and give donations that hopefully will all be matched and help those organizations in their 2016 year.”
Cotherman said Nextier had collected over $30,000 to use as matching funds for donors who gave in yesterday’s collection efforts.
The actual amount that will be given to each of the 48 non-profits is unclear at this time, since all of the donations have yet to arrive. Donors had until midnight last night to have their contribution envelope postmarked with yesterday’s date in order for it to be eligible for the matching dollars. Cotherman said they will give several days for the last minute eligible envelopes to arrive before making final determination of dollars to be distributed.
The Armstrong County Community Foundation previously sponsored the Day of Giving over the past several years. However, when it announced it would not be administrating the fund-raiser this year, Cotherman said the bank and YMCA stepped up.
“We as Nextier Bank and the Richard G. Snyder YMCA felt that this was such a growing need in how many organizations depend on these donations that we couldn’t see it go by the wayside.”
Cotherman concluded the day with heartfelt appreciation to the community.
“We are so thankful and so grateful to all of the community members, the organizations, and everyone that gave an effort to make today very successful. We simply couldn’t do it without the generosity in our area.”
