Jacob Street Re-Paving Planned in Two Weeks
by Jonathan Weaver
According to Borough Engineer Mike Malak, paving work could begin on Jacob Street in Kittanning as early as the week of April 18.
“That’s tentative right now – we want to meet with him and set a firm date based on the weather and also to be able to notify businesses in the area,” Malak said.
Contractors were reportedly ready to begin yesterday, but Malak wanted to allow time to contact local residents and business owners.
Borough Councilman Gerald Shuster praised Malak and Project Manager Sally Conklin for notifying business owners in a timely manner.
The street was milled down and paved last fall, but core samples showed the top coat of the pavement was not laid down to the specifications established by PennDOT. Contractor Russell Standard will have to come back, remove the top coat, and install new asphalt once again.
Money for that portion of the job was withheld by Kittanning Borough Council until the paving is complete and passes inspection.
