OBIT: Jean Mohney (Ford City)

Jean Mohney, 92, of Ford City, died on April 2, 2016 at Good Samaritan Hospice in Cabot.

She was born in Ford City on August 11, 1923, a daughter of Charles and Velma (Dyess) Croyle. She was a lifelong resident of the community.

She was employed as a bookkeeper in PPG Industries Shop 2 and at Paul’s Flower Shop, a clerk/pharmacy tech for Klingensmith’s, and worked at Big River shirt factory.

Jean was a lifelong member at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Ford City, served as a volunteer for ACMH Hospital for 25 years, and enjoyed walking the Ford City Trail as well as bowling and helping family and friends.

She will be remembered lovingly by her daughter: Paula (Mohney) and Dan Matus of Ford City and grandchildren: Michael and Melissa Matus, Marc Matus, and Elizabeth Matus, and great-grandchildren: Laci and Caleb; and also by her son: Ray Croyle from Cabot.

She is survived by her God-daughter Janice Paul-Onofrey; and the son she never had: Pastor John & Mary Smaligo and family John, Beth, and Andy; and numerous nieces and nephews; her sisters: Hallie Rupert of Ford City, and Joan Davey of Cumberland, MD.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Albert M. Mohney, Jr., who died on April 26, 2005; and sisters: Allene McGregor and Helen Smeltzer.

Visitation will be held from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Tuesday, April 5, 2016 at the Mantini Funeral Home in Ford City, and from 12 Noon until the time of a funeral service at 2PM on Wednesday, April 6, 2016 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Ford City, with pastors Jack Delk and John Smaligo co-officiating. Interment will take place in the Kittanning Cemetery.
