Transit Leaders Open to Community Ideas
by Jonathan Weaver
All Armstrong County residents are welcome to provide their ideas to improving Town and Country Transit tomorrow.
The transit agency based in Kittanning is working with AECOM, of Dallas Texas.
The consultation was provided after a Technical Assistance grant through the Southwestern Planning Commission, General Manager Patti Lynn Baker said.
“There are some things that PennDOT recommended we do, and one of those things was a transit development plan. We wanted to develop a plan that the agency could have to move forward with and this is something AECOM is helping us put together.”
The consultants are currently reviewing the transit organization’s 40 year history and existing transit routes.
“In order for us to move forward, they have to look at where we’ve been and where we’re at currently in order to build a good foundation of where we need to go and where we should go,” Baker said. “A key part in that is being able to look at the needs of our customers or potential customers.
“It’s very important that people who use public transportation or who would like to use public transportation come out to these open houses.”
A pair of open houses will be held - from 11AM-1PM at the terminal (179 North McKean St.) in Kittanning and from 5-7PM at the West Kittanning Fire Hall (401 Arthur St.) in West Kittanning.
Manor Township Board Director Steve Anderson hopes to be in-attendance at the terminal open house.
AECOM has helped with similar or larger public transportation plans nationwide, and for Mid-Mon Valley in Charleroi.
Transit leaders also distribute a customer satisfaction survey each Fall, but not as many responses were received this past year as usual.
