Traffic for motorists along Route 28/66 in Boggs Township was at a stand-still for more than an hour yesterday afternoon following a two-vehicle accident along the major highway.

At about 4PM, Pine Township-Templeton and Kittanning Township volunteer firefighters were dispatched to the River Road intersection – near a residence at 1296 State Route 28/66.

Traffic in both directions and along River Road was detoured, split to allow for both motor and truck traffic or halted as firefighters and Pennsylvania State Police troopers assessed the scene and cleaned up debris.

Both Kittanning #6 and Ford City Ambulance units responded to the incident to treat victims in the accident.

A STAT MedEvac helicopter was also put on stand-by for patients involved in that incident, but Pine Township-Templeton Assistant Fire Chief Bill Cloak said the unit was not needed.

The crash reportedly left four patients – including one child that had to be reportedly taken to Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh. An entrapment was also reported, but did prolong response from emergency personnel.

Assistant Chief Cloak confirmed the three adult patients were taken to ACMH Hospital to be treated for their injuries. He characterized them as only “minor” injuries.

An updated Pennsylvania State Police report regarding the crash was not available before this morning’s edition.
