OBIT: Alda Blanche (Wachter) Smith (Kittanning)
Alda Blanche (Wachter) Smith, 93 of Kittanning, died Monday, July 6, 2015, at ACMH Hospital.
She was born July 23, 1921, in Indiana Township, Allegheny County, to Edward F. and Mary (Shorts) Wachter,
Alda lived in the area since 1958, and worked as a registered nurse and went back to school at the age of 83 to get her bachelor’s degree.
She was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps during World War II and a member of Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville. She also attended Grace Presbyterian Church in Kittanning.
She belonged to the Golden Links and spent many years traveling with the West Penn Winnies camper club.
Alda enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and taking her children to activities when they were younger.
She is survived by her two daughters: Marian (William) Sumney of Chicora and Nancy (David) Shaffer, of Adrian; three sons: Clyde (Ellie) Smith, of Butler, Martin Smith of Victoria, Texas and Bryan (Christine Corry) Smith, of Millers Creek, North Carolina; 12 grandchildren; great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; as well as many step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a great-great grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews.
Alda was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John F. Smith, who passed away July 11, 2000; two brothers: Earl and Orville Wachter; and sister, Martha Wachter-Thompson.
Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9PM tomorrow - Thursday, July 9, 2015 - at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Cowansville.
Additional visitation will be held at the Union First Presbyterian Church in Cowansville from 10AM until the time of funeral services at 11AM Friday, July 10, 2015.
The Rev. Mary Marks King will officiate.
Interment will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates.
