Lester Robert Erb, Sr. (Rural Valley)
Lester Robert Erb, Sr., 78 of Rural Valley died on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the Armstrong County Health Center.
He was born on April 21, 1934 in New Kensington to Arthur Russell Erb and Cora Ann (Woomer) Erb. He was a lifelong resident of the community.
He served as a Green Bret in the U.S. Army during Korean War from 1954-1956. He made 96 jumps as an Airborne Soldier.
He was formerly a welder with M.M Adelson in Tarrtown, and worked at Perry and Magnum Sawmill, and Gerald Kimmel Pipeline.
He was a member of the St. Thomas United Church of Christ in Gastown.
He loved gardening, playing with his lawn tractors, and always had the biggest and first red tomatoes in the neighborhood.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years: Judy Carol (Barger) Erb of Rural Valley; three daughters: Dona Kay (Gary) Shaffer of Plumville, Judy Carol (Kristopher J.) Woods of Elderton, and Amy (James) Merryman of Kittanning; three sons: Lester Robert (Kathy) Erb, Jr., Robert Lester Erb of Kittanning, and William Leo (Sharon) Erb of Kittanning; eight grandsons; four granddaughters; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister: Patty (William) Smith of Marion Center.
He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter Riley Pyle; great-grandson Hadden McIntyre; and 12 brothers and sisters.
Friends will be received from 10AM – 12PM and 4-6PM today, Tuesday, January 22, 2013 at the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning.
Additional visitation will be held from 10AM tomorrow, Wednesday, January 23, 2013 until the time of a funeral service at 11AM at the funeral home.
The Reverend Carl Johnson will officiate.
