Seibert J. Wood, 94, of Elderton, went home to be with his Lord on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at Altmeyer’s Country Rest Home.
He was born on October 24, 1917 in Plumcreek Township to Howard and Margaret (Johnson) Wood.
Seibert graduated from Elderton High School and lived in Armstrong County all of his life, aside from three years spent in Warren, Ohio. He honorably served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of the Elderton American Legion. Seibert worked in maintenance for the air products manufacturing department of Union Carbine Corp., Linde Division, for 35 years until his retirement in 1980.
He was a member of Elderton United Methodist Church where he enjoyed being involved in a number of church activities. Hunting, fishing and woodworking were among Seibert’s favorite hobbies, and he treasured time spent with his family.
His memory will be carried on with love by his two sons: Gary S. (Dixie) Wood of Ford City and Larry (Sandy) Wood of Shelocta; two step-daughters: Sharyn D. (Melvin) Keim of Saginaw, MI and Deborah E. Decock, of San Jose, CA; grandsons, Dustin and Shawn Wood; step-grandchildren, Melvin G. Keim and Melissa S. (Brad) McNally; four great-grandchildren: Paige, Mason, Taylor and Spencer; and four step-great-grandchildren: Robin, Michael, Logan and Olyvia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Rosalene D. (Boyer) Wood, who passed away January 9, 1991; second wife, Dorothy J. (Furman) Miller Wood, who passed away April 3, 2011; grandson, Erin C. Wood; four brothers: Blaine Wood, Horace Orn Wood, James Lancelet Wood and Nurr Vincent Wood; and sister, Virginia Stewart.
Friends will be received from 7-9 PM on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home in Elderton.
Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Friday, January 27, 2012 at the funeral home with the Rev. Arnold T. McFarland officiating.
Burial will be in Elderton Cemetery.
