Moving Forward: YMCA Leaders Continue Construction

Trucks transported large trusses into Kittanning Borough yesterday morning to aide with construction of the new Richard G. Snyder YMCA campus. The new facility will be at the intersection of North Water and Montieth streets and is expected to begin activities in early 2012.

Construction on the new Richard G. Snyder YMCA Campus took another step forward yesterday.
CEO Gary Miller explained that YMCA officials and construction crews will be adding a vital component to construction efforts starting this weekend.
“We have steel starting to come in for the facility,” Miller said. “It’s coming in different sections of the building - some for the family gym, then some for over the pool and it just depends what area. They are different sizes for whatever part of the structure to hold up.”
The new 27,000-square-foot campus will be located at the intersection of North Water and Monteith streets in Kittanning on the former Bauer Block lot. It will replace the current North Water Street facility.
Miller also gave some goals for the facility construction.
“The people who are going to start erecting the steel should be here and start working on that Friday,” Miller said. “Still, our goal is to have the building under roof by December 1st so they can be available to start working on the inside of the building.”
Landau Building Company workers were expected to only receive one part of the steel to begin framing this weekend, but additional parts were trucked into Kittanning Tuesday morning.
The Wexford builders are on-schedule to begin Friday and are expected to work through the weekend.
Activities are projected to begin at the new two-floor facility in Winter 2012.
