Elderton Borough will hold a special meeting on Monday night to approve a new ordinance to protect property owners. A new ordinance enacted by county planners puts property owners in municipalities that do not have zoning ordinances at the mercy of the county. If Elderton does not approve their own ordinance, the county ordinance would have prohibited renovations of the Elderton elementary and high school complex as proposed by the architect and approved by the ASD school board.
She can talk! Oprah Winfrey was on a tour earlier this month. She was interviewed for 50 minutes. It took her 25 minutes to answer one question! The press reported not about what she was saying but rather how long it took her to say it!
Will Bob Bower run for county commissioner? Only his closest friends are scratching their heads. Whatever decision he is making, he is keeping it quiet for the next few weeks.
Candidates planning to run for election this spring should consider one major question: How do you plan on reducing taxes? Tax payers are not happy with holding the line on taxes… they want them reduced. Those candidates answering that question will have my vote.
Howard Jack is retiring after 36 years of service to Manor Township. There are already two people who plan to run for his seat. We will probably see more challengers emerge as the word is spread of his retirement. Look for him to stay as the appointed municipality representative to Town and Country Transit. No one else wants the job.

Are you kidding? Bob Bower for Commissioner! This has to be a joke!!! No mistake…. The guy does his job well as a CORONER. He’s knowledgeable about the duties of being a Coroner but NOT as a County Commissioner. Mr. Bower’s motivation is a personal one and that is to go after the County Commissioner for whatever reason. He has NO intentions to serve the people of the County and to make FAITHFUL policy-making budget decisions!
If Bob Bower and his inner circle are scratching their heads now, can you imagine how much head scratching he’ll be doing IF he manages to get into office??? We cannot have a candidate that scratches their head… We need candidates that have a firm strategic plan and a comprehensible direction to steer the County into a positive and productive future. There is far too much negativity that clouds Mr. Bower and for him to carry that “negative cloud” over the board of Commissioners would be a disgrace to the County!
Here’s an advice Mr. Bower, stick with the autopsies and stay away from County policies and finances. If you want to be a County Commissioner, go back to school and be a financial or business expert. That’s what the County needs… not a medical or forensic expert!

Our coroner doesn’t even do autopsies, essentially he goes to the scene and says “yep, they are injured” or “yep, they didn’t survive” and we are paying for this crap. Though I have been told this is mandaded by the state.
The County Comissioners need to start trimming back staff, as does our judiciary, do we really need 4 District Magistrates at $80K per person, not counting benefits?
Do we really need to spend millions on 911 communications?
Do we need all these row office positions?
Do we really need to spend another million to move the communication center? (hint Armstrong county is NOT the target of anyone)
Do we really need a $300,000 stoplight?
Do we really need the Jail? Look on your tax bill that takes up a huge portion of our taxes.
Do we really need $80 million dollar gymnasiums while our curricula is stuck in the 60′s?
Do we really need a State Rep. who is concerned about lice?
Do we really need a full time prosecutor?
Do we really need to spend money for portraits of our judges?

@Scott
Well we do need a jail, and a prosecutor and the magistrates, and the row offices. Not all of them need to be elected. Obviously, some things are excessive, but not all.
