Manor Township Supervisors Jim McGinnis, Jill Davis, and Howard Jack said the 2011 budget restores 1 mill of tax to the fire department and raises salaries for road workers and police officers.

Manor Township supervisors voted to approve a preliminary budget at last Wednesday night’s meeting.
The budget gives a raise across the board for road workers and policemen in addition to giving the Manor Township Fire Department one full mill of tax.
Last year, due to budget cuts, the fire department was reduced to $57,000. The new budget calls for $65,500, but Supervisor Jill Davis was cautious.
“They will receive the $65,500 if everyone pays their taxes in 2011,” she said.
Davis announced the increase for police and road workers, but supervisors refused to give details.
“We actually set the rate on January 3, 2011 at our reorganizational meeting,” Supervisor Howard Jack said.
However, in reviewing the budget, it showed that public safety allocations went from $114,000 in 2010 to $124,000 in 2011. The cost specifically for police wages was raised from $45,000 this year to $46,000 next year, indicating a raise of $1,000 in police wages alone. Transportation was also raised by $500. Davis indicated the increase was necessary because of rising fuel costs and maintenance on two police vehicles.
Trash cleanup was budgeted at $10,000 in 2010 but reduced to $9,000 in 2011 because the actual cost was $7,705.02 in 2010.
The estimated fund balance is expected to be $345,650 on January 1, 2011. The township expects revenue next year to be $946,503 and expenses at $1,091,175. If accurate, the ending fund balance on December 31, 2011 will be $200,978.
The budget is available for inspection by anyone at the municipal building during regular office hours. A meeting date to officially adopt the budget will be Wednesday, December 22 at 1PM in the Manor Township Municipal Building, 306 Byron Street in McGrann.
