East Franklin Hunter Bags Buck in Clarion County

Lee Rettig got up yesterday morning, had several cups of coffee and was out the door around 5:30 AM. His plan was to be in position at the crack of dawn, hoping to catch a glimpse of the “big one.”

“I was with my grandson, Nick, and I wish he would have got it. It just didn’t happen that way. We were sitting together in a tree house. That was the only deer we saw was that buck.”

East Franklin Township resident Lee Rettig, 79, shows off a 15-inch, 8-point buck he shot in Clarion County yesterday morning.

It didn’t take Rettig very long to raise his 270 gun and shoot. The result was a 15-inch, 8-point buck that would bring pride to any hunter.

“It was the biggest deer I ever got. It was around 175 pounds. They want me to get it mounted, but I never get them mounted. I don’t do that,” he said.

Rettig was hunting between Rimersburg and Sligo in Piney Township, Clarion County.

He said it was his lucky day. “Usually I don’t get one,” he remarked.
