OBIT: Vernon G. “Dutch” Miller (Shelocta)

Vernon G. “Dutch” Miller, age 89, of Shelocta, PA, died on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 31, 1921, in Gastown, PA, the son of William and Annie (Bark) Miller.

Mr. Miller was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church in Gastown where he served on the church council. He was also a former president of the Gastown Cemetery Association. Vernon retired in 1976 as a heavy equipment operator with Robert D. Perry Construction and had previously worked for R & P Coal Company for many years. Vernon was a member of the UMWA Local #2153.

He will be deeply missed by his wife of 70 years, Helen L. (Frailey) Miller; his two sons, William V. Miller and wife Sandy of Elderton, PA, and Larry A. Miller and wife Faye of Apollo, PA; ten grandchildren; and fifteen great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Vernon was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Rick Miller; three brothers, Clark, Glenn, and William Miller; and two sisters, Valjean Miller and Violet Henley.

Friends will be received from 2-4 and 7-9 P.M. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at the Clark Chapel of the Bauer Funeral Home, Inc., in Elderton.

Additional visitation will be held from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM, on Tuesday October 19, 2010, at the Christ Lutheran Church of Gastown with the Rev. Joyce Dix-Weiers officiating.

Interment will follow in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, Armstrong Co., PA.
