Teens Go Airborne in Vehicle Accident
Katie L. Greenwald, 18, of Kittanning, and Zachery R. Reitz, 18, of Rural Valley were riding in a 2001 Hyundai Tiburon being driven by Adam T. Kough, 18, of Rural Valley, last Saturday at 12:55AM when Kough lost control of the vehicle sending it flying through the air.
According to Pennsylvania State Police report, the crash occurred on State Route 1033. Kough was unattentive and failed to observe a sharp right hand curve in the road. He then applied his brakes to slow the Tiburon, but was unsuccessful. The vehicle traveled across the southbound lane, and the front end undercarriage of the car struck the curb. This caused the vehicle to go airborne for 27 feet. When the car came back into contact with the ground, it struck an embankment head on and came to rest. Kough then attempted to back out onto State Route 1033, but the undercarriage of the car was hung up on the north eastern curb.
Greenwald was the only passenger to sustain minor injuries. She was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident.
