OBIT: ValJean (Slagle) Klingensmith (formerly of Templeton)

ValJean (Slagle) Klingensmith, 87, of New Carlisle, Ind., formerly of Templeton, died Friday, Sept. 4, 2015, in New Carlisle.

She was born March 21, 1928, in Mosgrove, daughter of the late William Harold and Garnet Catherine (John) Slagle.

In 2011, ValJean and husband, Tubby, moved to Hamilton Grove Retirement Community to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren.

She was a graduate of Kittanning High School. She was a member of Templeton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She lovingly tended a large vegetable garden and beautiful flower beds most of her adult life. She was an animal lover and nursed many stray animals back to health. Most of the pets on the family farm benefited from her rescue. She was a wonderful “Slagle” cook. She was a beloved wife, mother and grandmother.

Survivors include her husband, Richard A. “Tubby” Klingensmith, whom she married Aug. 22, 1953; daughters, Nancy Klingensmith, of Niles, Mich., Leslie (Carmen) DiGirolamo, of South Bend, Ind., Linda (Merle) Hook, of Knox, Ind., and Diane Klingensmith, of Franklin; three grandchildren, Rachel DiGirolamo, of South Bend, Ind., Kayla DiGirolamo, of South Bend, Ind., and Nicolas (Saranda) Musser, of South Bend, Ind.; and brothers, William H. (Mary) Slagle, of Glenshaw, and Larry (Nancy) Slagle, of Hawthorn.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Marilyn Stull; and brother, Dalton Slagle.

Friends will be received from 1 until time of services at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2015, in the Snyder-Crissman Funeral Home in Kittanning, with the Reverend Joni Williams officiating. Interment will be in Cochran Cemetery.
