Wildcats, Vikings Seeded in WPIAL Playoffs

Out of the 16 Class AA schools in western Pennsylvania that qualified for the playoffs, Kittanning was seeded 15th with a 6-3 record – a change from when the undefeated Wildcats were seeded as the Allegheny Football Conference champions in 2013 – and will battle the undefeated (9-0) Aliquippa Quips.

The Midwestern Athletic Conference champion Quips have outscored all of their opponents by nearly five touchdowns per game, home and away, and will be a stiff test for the Wildcats on their home field – where Aliquippa won their past two games- against Mt. Pleasant and Beaver Falls - to end the regular season.

Even as the 3rd seed last fall, Kittanning lost on their home turf to the Yough High School (Westmoreland County) Cougars

Both the Mt. Pleasant Vikings and Beaver Falls Tigers also made the playoff round of 16, with Beaver Falls traveling to play the Apollo-Ridge Vikings at Owens Field in Apollo.

This will be Kittanning’s last chance to move on in the section playoffs before the school combines with Ford City to become the likely-Triple A Armstrong Riverhawks next fall when the new junior-senior high school opens in Manor Township.

An Armstrong School District team has never made its way to the championship game – currently played at Heinz Field, home of the NFL Pittsburgh Steelers and collegiate Division 1 Pittsburgh Panthers.

Both games kick-off at 7:30PM Halloween Night.

The Kittanning-Aliquippa matchup will be broadcast live on WTYM AM 1380 Radio.
