The Kittanning midget football 100-pound division Redskins not only made it, but won the Allegheny Youth Football League super bowl championship October 25 with a final score of 14-6 against the Freeport Bees.
The hard work and dedication from both the players and the coaches paid off. Playing against Freeport last year in the super bowl and coming up in 2nd place along with losing to them twice this season - first game score of 14-12, second game 6-0 - made players hungry for a win in the title matchup.
Tears flowed and cheers began from the coaches, players, and parents as the game was called with just over a minute left declaring the Redskins had won the game!
The Redskins played an almost perfect game with everyone knowing and understanding their positions and bringing fourth 100% efforts.
Armstrong (8-2) got first-half touchdowns to get the victory over Freeport (9-1).
Armstrong Redskins football players and cheerleaders proudly held up their first place trophies in the Kittanning Halloween parade last week aboard a superbowl championship float.
The loss marks Freeport’s first loss in three seasons.
