No Smoke Found in Armstrong Court
As rain drops fell in Kittanning Borough last night, firefighters from the three borough fire companies responded to two semi-coincidental emergency dispatches.
Minutes before 8PM, Armstrong 9-1-1 dispatchers alerted firefighters that a resident called and said smoke was coming from an Armstrong Court apartment – Apartment 4H- at the corner of North Grant Avenue.
Interior firefighters forced their way into the residence, but reported to Kittanning Hose Company #1 Fire Chief Gene Stephens – the officer-in-charge due to the borough divisions – that they did not see or smell any smoke.
Firefighters searched all the floors of the residence, but do not know where the smoke originated.
Kittanning #6 emergency medical responders also responded to the incident.
The scene was secured within 20 minutes and residents were able to re-enter the building.
The Armstrong County Housing Authority was notified.
About the same time, a tree fell on power lines and was burning in the 1000 block of North Grant Avenue, blocking emergency response.
Hose Company #4 Fire Chief Earl “Buzz” Kline responded to the fallen tree. Allegheny Power crews were also notified and were to have responded within two hours of the report.
