11/08/1969 – Preschoolers ages three to five years old will be tutored starting on November 10 by Sesame Street on National Educational Television. It is an hour-long, daily, 25-week color series budgeted at $8 million and produced by the Children’s Television Workshop.
11/08/1969 – Awards were presented for prize winning essays in the “Voice of Democracy” contest sponsored by the Ford City VFW. Nancy Peters read the first-place winning essay written by Joyce Gemperlei, which received $50. Second place winner was Ira Lefton; Third place was Amanda Kaufman.
11/08/1969 – Kittanning Garden Club celebrated its 40th anniversary. It was organized November 22, 1929 at the home of Mrs. Clifford McNees on Hazel Street. Charter members included: Mrs. Meyer Greenbaum, Miss Maude Heilman, Miss Helen Heilman, Mrs. James T. McCullough, Miss Marguerite Titzell, Mrs. Joseph Henderson, Mrs. Clifford McNees – all of whom are living in or near Kittanning. Other deceased charter members included: Mrs. Lee Golden, Miss Bertha Reilly, Mrs.J. K. Eyler, and Miss Millicent Painter.
11/08/1954 – A new addition to Gilpin township school will be dedicated at ceremonies during open house Wednesday. Grover Myers, school board president, will give the address of welcome and introduce other directors.
11/08/1954 – Jack Herr, a member of Armstrong County American Legion Post, Kittanning, since its inception in 1919 has been appointed a member of the National Committee on Membership and Post activities. The appointment is the first to a national office for a member of the Kittanning post.

One of the highlights in the day’s celebration will be the unveiling and dedication of a recently constructed memorial to the soldiers of all the nation’s wars, in this and surrounding neighborhoods.

11/08/1944 – Jacob Walter Carr Pennsylvania Railroad agent at Butler was re-elected yesterday to a second four year term in the Pennsylvania Senate in a smashing 3-2 victory over Attorney Ward McCullough, Kittanning Democrat who won his party nomination on write-in votes cast at the primary election.
11/08/1939 – Kittanning’s worst fire of the year broke out in the business district at 8:15 Tuesday night, menacing the life of a janitor and causing damage to several thousand dollars to the Reese Building, 117 Market St., and the stock of the Grollman shoe store.
11/08/1939 - The Republican party made its annual clean sweep of courthouse offices in Armstrong County’s 1939 general election. W. P. Smith, Ed E. Schaeffer and Walter H. Miller were victorious in the commissioner contest.

Denny Daugherty, a Kittanning foremost citizen will be accorded a testimonial dinner by the Kittanning Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs and the Armstrong County Bar Association, Nov. 27 at Steim Hotel. The three groups are reported to feel that the recognition is due Daugherty for the invaluable service he has rendered, not only in the community but throughout the county and state.
