A request for a variance will be heard by the Kittanning Zoning Hearing Board on September 5 at 7PM on changing the use of the church building to a addiction recovery center. The public is invited to attend.
There will soon be decisions made on the disposition of church property on Woodward Avenue.
A sale of the Church of God to the Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission has been a point of contention among area residents. A town hall meeting on November 29, 2018 resulted in residents fearing the implications of living next door to a recovery center.
Commission Executive Director Kami Anderson attempted to explain that the proposed used was not a drug treatment center. However, the crowd was still apprehensive.
Because the property is situated in two different zones (R-2 and B-3), a hearing has been scheduled on Thursday, September 5, at 7PM in Council Chambers at the Kittanning Borough Municipal Building before the Zoning Hearing Board, according to Zoning Hearing Board Solicitor James Favero.
“The purpose of this hearing is to consider the special use variance and/or a variance requested by Armstrong-Indiana-Clarion Drug and Alcohol Commission to utilize the building known as the Kittanning Woodward Avenue Church of God located at 629 Woodward Avenue, Kittanning as a Recovery Center and a Social Club/Hall to be known as a ‘Positive Welcoming Recovery Community Club and Social Hall’,” Favero stated.
All interested parties should attend in order to present any evident that they may have with regards to the intended use.
