05/09/1969 – The West Kittanning Municipal Authority’s application to build its own water treatment plant on the Allegheny River is in the hands of the US Army Corps of Engineers. They will have to approve construction of an intake for the project on the right bank of the river at Applewold. The proposed work will consist of a 24-inch intake pipe extending from a pump house on the river bank riverward 14 feet from the shore line.

05/09/1969 – The Ford City Little League will stage its annual parade and ceremony on Saturday, it was announced by president Joe Rosol.

05/09/1969 – Henry Livengood of 883 N. Grant Ave., Kittanning, was elected President of the Greater Kittanning Jaycees at a meeting last night.

05/09/1969 – Armstrong School District Board last night created a new position of administrative assistant to the office of superintendent. Directors said it would make the office of superintendent more effective and efficient. The job becomes effective July 1, 1969.

05/09/1969 – The Armstrong School District directors arranged for the services of police or auxiliary police as necessary to provide protection of children required to walk across bridges closed to loaded school buses in Ford City and East Brady. The Highway Department has lowered the weight limits and buses are too heavy to travel over the bridge.

05/09/1964 – A Kittanning-Ford City businessman who has devoted much of his lifetime to provision of good hospital service for Armstrong County is this year’s B’nai B’rith man-of-the-year here. Meyer Greenbaum, who was long-time chairman of the Finance Committee of the hospital board was influential in the gathering of money to build and operate Armstrong County Memorial Hospital, will be saluted by the Kittanning lodge of the order at a testimonial dinner next Thursday.

05/09/1959 – The Rev. and Mrs. Ralph Newell were rewarded with a certificate of appreciation by Kittanning Senior High School Student Council for being “foster parents” to Japanese exchange student Norika Miura, during the past year.

05/09/1959 – The Kittanning-Ford City Junior Woman’s Club was chosen to receive the first award in the junior division of printed yearbooks at the annual convention of the Pennsylvania Federation of Woman’s Clubs. They also were honored with the Junior Division’s Four Fold award.

05/09/1944 – Injured by the accidental explosion of a dynamite cap, Paul Putney of Union Avenue is a patient in Armstrong County Memorial Hospital with two mangled hands and lacerations of the body.

05/09/1939 – Ford City: A full week at the New York’s World’s fair, where they will compete and will present gymnastic exhibition stands, was assured today for 24 senior boys and 16 girls who drill at the Slovak Gymnastic Union Sokol here.

05/09/1939 – Helen Grace Rearick, four-year-old daughter of John and Catherine (Goepert) Rearick of Craigsville, was instantly killed when she ran into the path of an auto on the road in front of her home.

05/09/1934 – The need for a spring shower to relieve the exceptionally dry condition of Armstrong County woodlands was emphasized again when a forest fire swept over nearly 100 acres of lightly studded timer land in Boggs Twp.

05/09/1929 – A. Greenbaum and Son, who have operated a hardware and furniture store for years in Ford City, have opened a branch store in Vandergrift.

05/09/1929 – Blaine (Sammy) Himes joined the rank of golf immortals yesterday when he made a hole-in-one on the 250 yard at the Kittanning Country Club.
