3/26/1969 – Stockholders of the Middle Armstrong County Area Development Organization (Macado) elected four new members to the board of directors and re-elected a fifth man. Dr. Eugene Gould of Kittanning will continue for another four years. He will be joined by Robert Lehner, Larry Rosenson, Fred Rudolph, and Russell Wright. Nine men were nominated for five positions.
3/26/1969 – Dr. Turney Kirkwood was honored by the Armstrong County Medical Society and its Women’s Auxiliary at the Auxiliary’s annual Doctor’s Day observance last night at the Kittanning Country Club. Kirkwood has devoted more than 30 years to the practice of medicine. Mrs. David Kohl said Kirkwood has delivered approximately 5,000 babies and took night calls at least 9,999 times. He established the first laboratory at Armstrong County Memorial Hospital and purchased the first heart-testing equipment in Kittanning. For two years, he took his portable machine to the hospital until the institution bought its own equipment.
3/26/1969 – Sewage disposal in Armstrong County is a mess. That is the opinion of state health and soil conservation officials who undertook a study on sewage disposal in the country. Only about one percent of the county not served by public sewage treatment is suitable for septic tanks.
3/26/1969 – Armstrong County commissioners yesterday terminated further planning work for a 117-acre county park at Bradys Bend. Although federal and state grants for land had been made available, commissioners voted to discontinue work on the project because of the expected costs of park development and operation. Such expenditures would have to come from the general fund of the county.
3/26/1969 – A “remarkable” improvement has been noted in the quality of Ford City water, committee chairman Donald Grossman said, talking about the renovation at the borough’s filtration plant on Neale Avenue. The plant changed from feeding solid chemicals into the water into feeding liquid chemicals.
3/26/1969 – The Allegheny Valley Expressway will bring drastic population and economic changes to Armstrong County, Roland Sherman, executive director of the Armstrong County Development Council, told Ford City Lions Club members last night in a meeting at Manor Township Fire Hall, McGrann.
