Rain Produces Icy Roads in the County

Motorists experienced icy road conditions at various points throughout the county this morning following rain mixed with snow overnight.

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch at 4:17 AM. Then at 5:55 AM, it issued a light freezing rain advisory for Butler, Kittanning, Ford City, and Indiana.

“A light glaze of ice will be possible on bridges, overpasses, and untreated pavement this morning before surface temperatures rise to above freezing and freezing rain transitions fully to rain,” the advisory said. “Motorists should exercise caution while driving this morning and be aware of the potential for slick conditions.”

One motorist reported to the Kittanning Paper that the Freeport bridge at Route 356 was temporarily closed due to ice.

New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible is possible throughout the day today as rain continues.
