A 5AM crash resulted in the closure of Route 422 in West Franklin Township Wednesday morning.
The crash occurred as an unknown driver was driving north on Claypoole Road approaching the flashing red light signal and turning west onto Route 422 in West Franklin Township. An unidentified driver of a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado was driving on Route 422 and moved into the left turn lane at the intersection of Claypoole Road. The unidentified driver of the 2013 Peterbilt coal truck was traveling east 
on Route 422, approaching the intersection with Claypoole Road. The Chevrolet began to turn left onto Claypoole Road when the first unit drove through the intersection and cut off the Chevrolet, causing the Chevrolet to stop in the middle of the intersection. The unknown driver drove off, The coal truck driver was going at an accelerated speed and could not stop. The right bumper of the truck struck the passenger side of the Chevrolet in an head-on fashion. After impact, the truck traveled east leaving approximately 108 feet of skid marks, traveling across the center medians then overturned onto its driver’s side, dispersing its load of coal and covering both westbound lanes of Route 422.
State Police indicated the driver will be cited for not driving at a safe speed. No information was available on the report on the condition of the two drivers involved in the accident.
Route 422 westbound was closed for approximately five hours while police reconstructed the accident scene and had the coal cleaned up.
