Manor Township Police Officer Frank Pitzer has submitted his letter of resignation which will be effective September 1, 2018.
“I appreciate the time given by Manor Township,” Pitzer wrote in his resignation letter. “However, due to an increased schedule at the District Attorney’s Office, I find I cannot be as productive as needed. I wish success to Manor Township.”
Pitzer was hired on as a part-time officer in March 2014. Supervisor Chairman Don Palmer said Pitzer is leaving in good standing and will be missed.
In other action, Manor Township Police Chief Eric Petrosky has requested eight total “No Parking” signs. Four signs will be placed on each side along Buffington Drive leading up to the football field.
“They’re finishing the new football field at Armstrong High School and September 7th is the first game,” Petrosky said. “We had a meeting with administration and security, myself included, about parking and how it could be an issue. Buffington Drive is the only way in and out. If visitors come from another town and one vehicle ends up parking on Buffington, it will lead to more vehicles parking there along the street. This creates an issue getting emergency vehicles to the field in case a player gets hurt or any other emergency.”
Manor Township Supervisor Tag Hecker also suggested adding a “Tow Away Zone” sign under each “No Parking Sign”. Having these signs would allow the police department to announce violations over the PA system, cite any parking infractions and have improperly parked vehicles towed if needed. The motion was passed, but no dollar amount was quoted. Palmer said the signs could “run around $400-$500” in total.
At Manor Township Supervisors meeting on July 18, there was a motion to hire Steven Guelich as a part-time officer, pending he passed his state MPOETC exam. He passed the test and is already a certified officer in Manor Township.
“Steve started working with me two days before he was certified and came in under training status,” Petrosky said. “He’s doing wonderful. He passed his test and (we) got him certified through Manor Township and is now a certified officer. He is going to ride at least 30 days with myself and other officers for training. By doing so, he will see an array of incidences and understand how to handle different situations. He will be a good fit for Manor Township. He will be someone who cares about the community.”
In final news, a motion was passed to put $200,000 into certificates of deposits through Elderton State Bank at an interest rate of 2.40%
“We have a few dollars that is not going to be used in the near future, so I wanted to take it out of the general checking account and buy some CDs with it to try and make a couple of pennies on it,” Palmer said. The total $200,000 will be moved in $50,000 increments to buy 4 CDs.
