During 2017, ACMH Hospital contributed over $201 million to the region’s economy, according to information released by The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP). ACMH Hospital also supported more than 900 full-time jobs in Armstrong County and the surrounding region.
Statewide, hospitals contributed $128.9 billion to the economy and supported more than 650,000 jobs—about one in ten in Pennsylvania. Every dollar directly spent by Pennsylvania hospitals results in an additional $1.24 spent in other parts of the economy through additional investments, resource utilization, and purchasing power.
Hospitals are also a top employer in 53 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, with healthcare comprising 12 percent of the state’s economy – more than manufacturing and retail trade.
“Each and every one of Pennsylvania’s hospitals plays a unique and important role in the communities they serve,” said Andy Carter, HAP president and CEO. “In addition to serving as major employers and key economic anchors, hospitals are delivering value that numbers simply cannot quantify. They are working to meet their communities’ most pressing needs, through addressing socioeconomic challenges, facilitating overdose prevention and opioid use disorder recovery programs, and coordinating emergency preparedness services.”
“Our hospital recently made a substantive investment in our community with the addition of a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator,” said John Lewis, ACMH President and CEO. ”This addition plays a vital role in delivering more accurate and precise cancer treatment options, and our patients now have the convenience of the most technologically advanced cancer care available right here in their own community.”
“Our wide array of services has been growing throughout the years to meet the needs of the community,” Mr. Lewis continued. “These innovations include a certified primary stroke center, an advanced cardiac PCI program, hyperbaric wound treatment technology, treatment of lung and esophageal disorders, 3D mammography, concussion center and a state-of-the-art Emergency Department. Our primary care physicians practice at multiple convenient locations throughout Armstrong County and the surrounding area, providing treatment and care for medical conditions ranging from common to complex.”
