7/5/1968 – It was announced that James L. McCullough, manufacturer’s rep from Pittsburgh, was today named manager of the Kittanning-Ford City Area Chamber of Commerce. He was a 1947 graduate of Ohio State University, and served as a pilot in the U.S. Marine Corps during World War II. He will reside in Kittanning.
7/5/1968 – Eugene Fetterman, 31, of Vandergrift RD1 fell to his death last night, plunging 125 feet off a steep hill into a rocky creek bed. State Police stated he and his brother climbed the hill to drink beer and watch a movie at a drive-in theatre along Route 66 in Parks Township. The fatality occurred at approximately 10:30 PM.
7/5/1968 – Donald Montebell, 14, continues to show signs of improvement although in intensive care at Children’s Hospital. He is the son of Mr. & Mrs. E. T. Montebell of Kittanning RD3 and was injured June 26 in an accident that killed his pony, Trigger. The pony ran into the side of a truck operated by a Springfield, GA man at the West Glade Run Road intersection with Butler Road. The boy suffered a fractured skull and injuries to both arms. He was returning home after participating in the Worthington parade.
7/5/1963- Mrs. June Lingler of Rural Valley charge of the Methodist Church attended a Course of Study School at Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C.
7/5/1963- With the consolidation of the Margaret, Sagamore, Rural Valley, and Nu MIne Elementary Schools at the end of this school year there has been a similar consolidation of the PTA of the 4 schools which will witness the passing of, amongst other ones, the Nu Mine PTA.
7/5/1958- An Armstrong County Hunting and Fishing Club official one estimated attendance at yesterday’s Kittanning Community Picnic at “around 6,000 people”.
7/5/1958- As evidence of the increased use of the Allegheny River here lock official ones reported that over 500 people went thru the Kittanning lock yesterday.
7/5/1958- A long vigil was kept at the courthouse by Robert Powers, county register and recorder, as other courthouse employees enjoyed a long weekend holiday.
7/5/1958- Ford City- A record crowd visited Crooked Creek State Park yesterday as 31,451 people jammed the picnic area and beach during the holiday whilst temperatures hovered in the 90 degree zone during the afternoon.
7/5/1938- Peter Graff and Company called workers back to the woolen mills at Worthington, as machinery turned to fill an order which will keep the factory operating for probably 6 weeks.
7/5/1938- Kittanning citizens enjoyed the 4th of July with no serious injuries or burns received whilst shooting fireworks, a check with local physicians revealed this morning.
7/5/1938- Ford City- In the recent sales conducted by the office of Sheriff H.M. Booher, 13 properties in this vicinity, when put under the hammer, brought more than $10,000.
7/5/1933- A mammoth Independence Day picnic was held by Allegheny River Mining Company employees at the picnic grounds in Cadogan.
7/5/1933- Bids for alterations in the plumbing, heating, and electrical equipment of the Presbyterian manse property, N Jefferson Street at Arch, Kittanning, are to be received, according to action of the Kittanning borough council, until 8pm 27 July.
7/5/1928- Miss Marion White of Kittanning has been elected to teach in the English dept. of Apollo High School.
