The one-lane bridge on Lemmon Hollow Road will be replaced soon with a new two-lane bridge. PennDOT is picking up the tab for the reconstruction, then turning ownership of the bridge over to East Franklin Township.
East Franklin Supervisors last night said the township is inheriting a one-lane bridge on Lemmon Hollow Road that currently is owned by PennDOT.
Supervisor Dan Goldinger said the road was turned over to the township at least 25 years ago, but PennDOT retained ownership of the bridge. Now PennDOT has allocated $825,000 for replacement of the one-lane bridge with a new two-lane bridge and then intends to turn it over to East Franklin.
Goldinger said the upgrade to a two-lane bridge will require the purchase of a small piece of property owned by three different individuals.
The bridge spans Glade Run trout stream. In order to not disturb the stream, PennDOT will place anchors into the banks of both sides of the stream to support the new bridge structure.
Debra Cornman identified Gibson-Thomas Engineers as the design firm. After it is designed, the project will be bid out to contractors. The supervisors did not commit to a time frame, but did approve a bank account that will be used for the Lemmon Hollow Road Bridge Project. PennDOT is paying for reconstruction of the bridge and there is no cost to the Township.
