On Thursday, the Armstrong River Hawks varsity hockey team hosted the Franklin Regional Panthers in the second game of a double header at the Belmont, honoring the complex’s 50 year anniversary.
The River Hawks came out firing in the first period and it didn’t take them long at all to get ahead on the scoreboard.
Zach Kutch found Jace Rearic for the first goal of the game just 3:27 into the game. After that Jace Rearic returned the favor setting up Kutch for his first goal of the game to give Armstrong a 2-0 lead early on.
Franklin Regional was able to respond toward the end of the first, getting to within 1 to end the period. The Panthers then went ahead to score their second straight goal to tie the game at 2-2.
That lead would be short lived however, because Easton Hooks scored under two minutes later to give Armstrong the 3-2 lead.
In the third period, Armstrong put what would end up being the game winning goal on the board when Jace Rearic scored his second goal of the game to make the score 4-2 just 3 minutes into the third.
The Panthers scored three minutes after Rearic, but it was too little too late and the River Hawks improve to 4-1 on the season.
Armstrong will be back in action on Monday, November 20 as they travel to Hempfield. The puck is set to drop at 9:15 at the Kirk S. Nevin Ice Rink.
