The Armstrong River Hawks varsity football team is set to play Kiski Area High School in their final game of the year, with a chance to finish their season 6-4.
Though the Kiski Cavaliers sit at 1-8 this season, they could easily be a .500 team. In their first three games, Kiski fell to their opponent by 7 or less points a game, something River Hawks Head Coach Frank Fabian takes note of.
“This is probably going to sound like coach speak, but Kiski isn’t your normal 1-8 team. If you look at their games, they have been close but unable to finish. If you look at their last four games they have played some of the toughest games down the stretch,” Fabian said.
In the Cavaliers last four games, they had to go against the top teams in the Big East Conference - taking on Gateway, McKeesport, and Penn-Traffprd.
Heading into this game, Kiski is averaging 17 points per game on offense while allowing nearly 31.5 points per game. Armstrong on the other hand is averaging nearly 26.5 points per game offensively and allowing a little over 28 per game.
Kiski’s biggest strength this season has been their ability to stay in close games, especially in conference.
The River Hawks will take the field at Kiski starting at 7:00 PM. WTYM 1380 AM will be covering the game, including a pre-game show with a Coach’s Corner segment from both coaches starting at 6:30 PM.
