The Armstrong River Hawks varsity girls volleyball team are heading to the playoffs yet again after finishing their season with a 15-1 record and their third straight section championship (second in a row sharing the title with Oakland Catholic). Now the River Hawks have are looking for playoff success.

After losing eight seniors from last years team to graduation, the River Hawks haven’t skipped a beat. Armstrong Head Coach Andrea Lasher credits the teams continued production to the girls work ethic.

“What makes it nice is that we lost a lot of starters from last year, and how much we have improved from the beginning of the season and where we are now. The team has really come together and made themselves a good team.”

“They work hard, they listen, they make the adjustments that they need to and they have a lot of bumps and bruises to show for it. They’ve really been working and hopefully that hard work pays off. We’re setting our goals high, taking one match at a time and we’ll see how far we can go,” Lasher said.

This Thursday, Armstrong will host Shaler - a team that they are familiar with in the playoffs. Last year the River Hawks downed Shaler in three straight sets at home to win their first round match-up.

The first step in the River Hawks playoff run will be Thursday, and Lasher says the team has to work hard and take one game at a time.

“We just have to be focused and concentrate when we’re on the court. We have to focus on each match that we’re playing and not look ahead to anything right now, that’s how you make your way there,” Lasher said.

Armstrong will open the playoffs at home on Thursday with the match set to start at 7:30 PM.
